One of my favorite moments running Jam with Jamie was in 2020. I know that may sound surprising, considering the pandemic brought the world to a halt. But something beautiful emerged behind the scenes of our company during that time. We were simply offering music with the spirit of giving back.
Our classes moved online and became complimentary, and our parties were donation-based, with all proceeds going directly to the performers—many of whom had no idea how they would make ends meet. Our mission was to be there for families, offering smiles and joy through music during such an uncertain time. There was something magical about the exchange of service, given without expectation, just to bring a little happiness into people’s lives. That spirit of giving reminded me of the important values my parents taught me growing up.
I wasn’t new to the world of non-profit work. My family runs a scholarship foundation in memory of my brother Alan, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 1998. It’s called the Epstein Reach for the Stars Foundation, founded by my parents, Murray and Cheryl. They poured their hearts into helping high school students—young people with incredible potential but limited financial means—achieve their dreams through education.
